Your Path to Becoming an RVT in New Mexico
Becoming a Registered Veterinary Technician is a journey of dedication and skill. Here are the three key steps to earning your credentials in our state.
Step 1: Graduate from an AVMA-Accredited Program Your foundation begins with a degree from a veterinary technology program accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA). This ensures your education meets the highest national standards for the profession.
Step 2: Pass the Veterinary Technician National Exam (VTNE®) The VTNE is the comprehensive exam that evaluates your competency to practice and become a credentialed veterinary technician. It is administered by the American Association of Veterinary State Boards (AAVSB).
Step 3: Apply for Certification in New Mexico Once you have graduated and passed the VTNE, you can apply for your official certification with the New Mexico Board of Veterinary Medicine (NMBVM), the state’s licensing and regulatory body.
